The Cowboys on the Grand

What's this Cowboys on the Grand all about?

Well....It's about celebrating the fact that Yoakum has a rich ranching and farming heritage.
It's about walking around the Pershing Square area with family and friends and visitors just to see the beautiful results of many years of planning.
It's about going in the shops downtown and thanking those businesses that have endured inconveniences and construction delays over the past year.
It's about combining several traditional events and some new ones into two fun~filled days and nights. It's about having a GREAT time, participating and just enjoying yourself.

Everything begins on Friday evening, November 17th. Mrs. Claus and her elves will again light Centennial Park, followed by Santa's arrival downtown to light the traditional big cedar tree. We're not sure exactly where Santa will locate the tree, but, it will be back downtown this year.

There will be carolers, and bands and a singer or two. West Grand will be blocked off from Irvine to Front Street that evening with lots of surprises for visitors. Stores will be open late, hosting local artists and authors offering a wide array of talent.

On Saturday, November 18th, the Country Craft Show will open for the 22nd year with creative and unique gifts for your holiday shopping. The show will be at the Yoakum Community Center from 10:00 to 4:00 pm.

The Library will also be open on Saturday from 1:00 to 3:00 pm with a special program and the museum will once again host the enchanting Christmas Tree Forest.

Remember to drop by the Chisholm Trail Park and see the life sized topiaries of cowboys and their trusty dogs herding longhorns. This is a must for your visiting friends and relatives.

End your Saturday at historic Turner Hall for the fourth annual Night in Old Pearl City. Since its inception, this event has grown each year. If you enjoy a great dance floor, really good music, some local history and a touching patriotic tribute, you don't want to miss Night in Old Pearl City.

Roy Rogers on Trigger

If you've never quite gotten around to throwing out your old Roy Rogers lunch kit or your Hopalong Cassidy mug, then there's still a cowboy (or cowgirl) in your soul! Part of the fun at Cowboys on the Grand will be dressing like your favorite TV or movie cowperson. It doesn't have to be fancy ~ just realistic. The best dressed man, woman and child will be recognized for their creativity, so why not join in the fun?
